What does CSA Really Mean

Food BasketCommunity Supportive Agriculture (CSA) consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation - the community's farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Members or shareholders of the farm, or garden, pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation. In return, they receive shares in the farm's bounty throughout the growing season, and also share in the risks, including poor harvest due to unfavorable weather or pests.

Eaton's Creek Organics and Hungry Gnome Farm will be combining resources to offer a fantastic CSA season for our shareholders.

Eaton's Creek Organics has been certified organic since 2001 and Hungry Gnome Farm uses strict organic growing guidelines. Both farms are located in North Davidson County and grow produce of the highest quality in taste, freshness and nutrition.

We will be offering a 26 week CSA season starting in May (whenever the vegetables are ready for prime time picking) and ending around the end of October.

We'll have old standard heirlooms and new varieties of vegetables, salad greens, fruits, herbs and flowers.

We will roll out the spring season with carrots, strawberries, asparagus, onions, salad, greens, kale, beets and more; move into the heat of summer with herbs, early tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, squash, lettuces, beans, eggplant, sweet and hot peppers, blackberries, peaches, melons; and flow into the cool of fall with winter squash, sweet potatoes, greens, potatoes, onions, cauliflower and turnips.

There will be many more surprise additions to our CSA baskets throughout the season. We will be adding new vegetables, greens, and fruits as they reach the peak of ripeness. Along with your produce, you will receive a weekly newsletter with recipes, farm news, and tips on how to use and store your produce.

Periodically during the season there will be the opportunity to purchase cheese, eggs and poultry from another local farmer .
